Once upon a time, a little lightning bug was stuck inside a mason jar, just blinking away. He was completely focused on being the brightest and getting everyone to notice him...until now. The jar was opened, and the little bug is flying away. Every bug seems to be flying toward a bright light near a porch. The light is making a buzz. Instead, our little friend is going big: he's flying for the moon.

Country of the Day: Ecuador
Ecuador is a South American nation, bordered by Peru and once-featured Colombia. The nation is quite mountainous, as the Andes Mountains run through it. The world's tallest active volcano is in Ecuador, and the nation is also home to one of the largest mountains in the world.
14,790,608. That's the number of people in Ecuador. Of that 15 million, 7.6% are unemployed and 35.1% are below the poverty line. Disease is an issue here, as the usual culprits are in Ecuador, too: malaria, dengue fever, typhoid fever, and hepatitis A.
I feel like I'm repeating myself, as the stats from the Dominican Republic (yesterday) seem to ring true here, as well. Spiritually speaking, 95% of Ecuador is Roman Catholic, and 5% are "other." Sounds good to me!
God, we pray for Ecuador today. They are overwhelmingly Catholic, and we pray that they live what they claim to believe. We pray that a revival happens in this nation, and that the lost of Ecuador would be drawn to you. We pray for their physical needs, and that their needs would be provided for. In Jesus's name, amen.

74 volcanoes to be exact.. and I've seen the 2 tallest in person.. and stood on the Equator.. such an incredibly beautiful country!
ReplyDeletetheir Catholicism is lived out very fully.. the major issue is that it is true Roman Catholicism, not the Westernized Catholicism we're used to seeing. they're extremely ritualistic and legalistic.. statues of Mary sit atop the highest peaks in practically every city (which the citizens pray to).. the road across the highest peak in the country (13,500 ft.) has a monument to Mary and everyone is under religious obligation to stop and pray to her, thanking her for a safe journey thus far & for blessings on the rest of the journey. their dedication to their beliefs is amazing.. if only we could have that level of passion in serving the One True God! we can learn a huge lesson even from their pagan-esque religious culture.
That's so true, Trent. That's a concept I have been noticing for a few years now- if Christians had the passion that Islamic suicide bombers have for their faith... I mean, we don't want to kill ourselves, obviously, but the passion...
